Now, whether the properties you are strongly considering are pet friendly or if you negotiating, you have to realize something. Your potential landlords are going to have questions. Answer them honestly. If your dog tends to pee in the floor if his puppy pads are not down, answer honestly when asked — but you can also swear that you will make sure the pads are always available. If the cat does not like young children, say so.

You can always ask questions, too. If a potential landlord refuses to allow pets, just ask him or her why. You may be able to calm any fears.

You have to be responsible when you have pets in a rental property — after all, you may not always live there, so you need to be courteous and responsible. You may consider to add a pet rider onto the rental agreement — but then you will have to abide by it.
